What is SPŎT'LĪT' ?: SPŎT'LĪT' is a blog in support of people who live their lives – successes and especially failures – perched atop a rickety pedestal in front of the light of the eyes of onlookers from around the world. They are athletes, musicians, pageant queens, models, vocalists, actresses and actors, ministers, journalists, etc. I support them as a respecter of their God-given craft, skill, gift or talent that has propelled them into the public spotlight. I support them as one who empathizes with the fact that when they fall, their fall is seen and judged by so many, so many who for a moment forget they have fallen themselves. I support them as a believer of Christ who died for the sins of all mankind. I support them by challenging other believers to honor God’s commandment to love thy neighbor, His teaching to forgive, and His instruction to let our light shine before men, illuminating the path for those in need to find their way to restoration through the one who erases transgressions and restores the fallen.
Why the name SPŎT'LĪT'?: The title was inspired by the various actual definitions and symbolic meanings of the word - and the 2 words that join together to comprise it - in the following ways:
1. Definition of the word “spotlight”: Public notoriety or prominence; vt. To light up or draw attention to by, or as by, a spotlight; To focus attention on.
2. Definition of the word “spot”: a flaw or defect, as in character or reputation; something blameworthy; fault.
3. Definition of the word “light”: brightness; illumination; to illuminate; public knowledge or view; the way in which something is seen; a person whose brilliant record makes him or her an example for others; outstanding figure
4. “Spot” symbolizes: stain, tarnish, blemish, imperfection, humanity, weakness, transgression, sin
5. “Light” symbolizes: Jesus Christ as the “light of the world”. Likewise, Jesus called believers the “light of the world” (Matthew 5:14-16). The natural light of the world (spotlight) has only the ability to expose, highlight, and illuminate the spots in the lives of those in the “spotlight”. However, the spiritual and true light of the world – Jesus Christ - has the power to not only illuminate a spot but, more importantly remove a spot. Isa 43:25 KJV - I, [even] I, [am] he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
Life in the spotlight, regardless of the role, often means having, not only your gifts and talents, but also your character defects, flaws and mistakes illuminated for public viewing and judgment. Sadly, as believers, we often respond to the media frenzy in the same manner as those who do not know Christ. Doing so forfeits what could be a most pivotal opportunity to pray for and possibly even witness to a celebrity (Yes! Anything’s possible.) who’s fallen out of fellowship with God or not yet come to know Him. We too, have the power to cover the transgressions of our brothers and sisters by illuminating Christ to others. This is manifested by our love and forgiveness for one another as God loves and forgives us. This is important for all, but it is extra important to be light to those whose highs and lows are weighed on a public scale. Bottom line, the celebrity community (whether regional, national, or worldwide fame) should not be excluded.
The purpose of this blog is to apply wisdom, forgiveness, and compassion to the headlines and present the light of Christ to those living life on the world’s stage, in the world’s spotlight. We will bathe them in prayer in hopes that they will be restored to or come to know the true Light of the world. Welcome to the SPŎT'LĪT'!
Mat 5:14 - 16 KJV - Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 - Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
